Enhance your shape!
Whether you’re simply unhappy with the appearance of your buttocks or have lost some of your silhouette with age, Brazilian Butt Lift at Plastic Surgery of Westchester may be an option for you. A Brazilian Butt Lift combines the benefit of liposuction with the safe and effective technique of fat transfer to augment the buttock shape and projection. Any area of the body, including the arms, abdomen, hips, back or thighs can be liposculpted and provide fat for transfer.
For the best, most-lasting results, we use traditional liposuction and gentile filtering techniques. Brazilian Butt Lift can also be an adjunct to other procedures, such as a “tummy-tuck” or breast augmentation. The surgeons at Plastic Surgery of Westchester can help you decide on the best procedures and appropriate timing for your procedures.
Brazilian Butt Lift Benefits
A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) offers the unique advantage of improving two areas of the body simultaneously. Through liposuction, unwanted fat can be removed from areas that may be resistant to diet and exercise, while the transferred fat is used to enhance buttock shape, projection, and contour. This combination often creates a more sculpted silhouette and improved body proportions. Many patients choose a Brazilian Butt Lift because it provides natural-looking enhancement without the use of implants. The procedure can improve buttock volume, enhance curves, create a narrower waist appearance, and produce a more balanced figure while utilizing the patient’s own fat.
Who Is a Good Candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Good candidates for a Brazilian Butt Lift are individuals seeking fuller, more shapely buttocks while also having sufficient excess fat available for transfer. Patients often desire improvement in buttock projection, shape, symmetry, or overall body contour and may wish to enhance their natural curves without implants. Candidates should be in good overall health, maintain a stable weight, and have realistic expectations regarding the procedure and recovery process. During your consultation, your surgeon will evaluate your body proportions, skin quality, available donor fat, and aesthetic goals to determine whether a Brazilian Butt Lift is the most appropriate option.

Your Initial Brazilian Butt Lift Consultation
Your consultation is an important step in planning a Brazilian Butt Lift procedure. During this appointment, your surgeon will review your medical history, discuss your goals, evaluate your body contours, and identify potential donor areas where fat can be safely harvested. This assessment helps determine whether sufficient fat is available to achieve the desired enhancement. You will also discuss expected results, surgical techniques, recovery requirements, and potential risks. Photographs may be taken for treatment planning, and your surgeon will create a customized surgical plan designed to achieve natural-looking proportions that complement your body shape.
Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure
A Brazilian Butt Lift begins with liposuction to remove excess fat from selected donor areas such as the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs, or hips. The harvested fat is then processed and purified before being strategically injected into different areas of the buttocks to create the desired shape, projection, and contour. The success of the procedure depends not only on the amount of fat transferred but also on precise placement techniques that promote long-term fat survival and natural-looking results. Every treatment plan is customized to enhance body proportions while maintaining a balanced and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Liposuction and Fat Transfer Techniques
The liposuction component of a Brazilian Butt Lift plays a significant role in the final outcome. Removing excess fat from surrounding areas can help create a more defined waistline and improve the contrast between the waist and buttocks, further enhancing overall body shape. Once the fat is harvested, it is carefully processed to separate healthy fat cells from excess fluid and impurities. The purified fat is then strategically injected into multiple layers to maximize survival and create smooth, natural contours throughout the buttocks and hips.
What to Expect
Brazilian Butt Lift Pre-operative:
- The surgeons at Plastic Surgery of Westchester are going to ensure that you are medically- optimized prior to undergoing Brazilian Butt Lift.
- You should be at a stable weight for approximately 3 months prior to surgery.
- Please give your surgeons a list of your medications and insight into any pre-existing medical conditions (don’t forget about a history of heart or lung problems, autoimmune diseases, wound healing problems, blood clots, or bleeding disorders).
- Vitamins and anti-inflammatory medications (such as aspirin, Motrin, Advil, and Aleve, etc.) should be discontinued no less than 1 week prior to surgery.
- We hope that you don’t smoke! Please refrain from any nicotine or tobacco use (including patches, gum and vapor cigarettes) for no less than 4 weeks prior and 4 weeks after your surgery. Remember, any history of smoking can increase your risk for certain complications, such as wound healing problems and infection.
Brazilian Butt Lift Post-operative:
- Most patients find immediate satisfaction after Brazilian Butt Lift; however, there is a period of swelling which resolves over a few weeks. Time for healing varies among patients, but the average patient benefits from up to two weeks of dedicated recovery.
- For the best results, you will be asked to refrain from sitting or lying on your buttocks for 4 weeks and will wear a compression garment for a total of 8 to 12 weeks post-operatively.
- When you are better healed, your surgeon will discuss and demonstrate massage and scar care techniques to keep your results looking fabulous!
- As always, please bring a list of your questions and concerns to your pre-operative visits. It is important to understand your overall health and expectations in order to individualize your treatment plan.
Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery
Recovery after a Brazilian Butt Lift requires special attention because newly transferred fat cells need time to establish a blood supply and survive. Patients are generally instructed to avoid sitting or placing direct pressure on the buttocks for a period of time and may be advised to use specialized cushions when sitting becomes necessary. Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are expected during the early stages of recovery and gradually improve over several weeks. Compression garments are typically worn to support healing in liposuction-treated areas, and most patients can return to many daily activities within a few weeks while continuing to see improvements as swelling resolves.
Brazilian Butt Lift Results
Patients often notice an immediate improvement in buttock shape and projection following surgery, although some of the transferred fat will naturally be reabsorbed during the healing process. Final results become more apparent over the following months as swelling subsides and the surviving fat cells stabilize. When combined with a healthy lifestyle and stable weight, Brazilian Butt Lift results can be long-lasting. Patients frequently enjoy fuller, more balanced contours and an enhanced silhouette that complements their natural body shape.

Brazilian Butt Lift Risks and Safety
As with any surgical procedure, a Brazilian Butt Lift carries risks that should be carefully discussed during the consultation process. Potential complications may include bleeding, infection, contour irregularities, asymmetry, fat absorption, fat necrosis, or the need for revision surgery. Patient safety is the highest priority, and proper surgical technique, careful patient selection, and adherence to established safety protocols are essential. Choosing an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon and following all recovery instructions can help minimize risks and support a successful outcome.
Brazilian Butt Lift vs Buttock Implants
A Brazilian Butt Lift and buttock implants are both designed to enhance buttock size and shape, but they achieve these goals differently. A Brazilian Butt Lift uses the patient’s own fat to create enhancement, resulting in a softer feel and more natural appearance while simultaneously contouring donor areas through liposuction. Buttock implants may be considered for patients who desire augmentation but do not have sufficient donor fat available. During your consultation, your surgeon can discuss the advantages and limitations of each approach and determine which option best aligns with your anatomy and goals.
Combining a Brazilian Butt Lift with Other Body Contouring Procedures
A Brazilian Butt Lift is often combined with additional body contouring procedures to create more comprehensive improvements. Common combinations include abdominal liposuction, flank contouring, tummy tuck surgery, thigh liposuction, and other treatments designed to improve overall body proportions. Addressing multiple areas during a single treatment plan can enhance overall body harmony and create more dramatic contour improvements. Your surgeon can recommend a customized approach based on your anatomy, available donor fat, and desired outcome.
Brazilian Butt Lift and Renuvion Skin Tightening
A Brazilian Butt Lift is often focused on enhancing the shape and projection of the buttocks through fat transfer while improving surrounding body contours with liposuction. For some patients, skin laxity in areas such as the abdomen, flanks, lower back, or thighs may limit the ability to achieve the most refined contour. When appropriate, Renuvion can be combined with a Brazilian Butt Lift to help tighten loose skin and further enhance the results of body contouring.
Renuvion utilizes a combination of radiofrequency energy and helium plasma to contract underlying tissues and improve skin retraction after liposuction. By addressing both excess fat and skin laxity, the combination of a Brazilian Butt Lift and Renuvion can create smoother transitions, improved contour definition, and a more sculpted overall silhouette. During your consultation, your surgeon will evaluate your skin quality and body composition to determine whether adding Renuvion to your Brazilian Butt Lift treatment plan may help optimize your results.
Brazilian Butt Lift FAQs
Anyone who is interested in enhancing the shape and contour of their buttocks and who would also like to eliminate fat from other target areas such as abdomen, hips, thighs or back is ideal. Best candidates are in good health and have enough fat in localized areas to achieve their desired shape.
Refrain from smoking and all other nicotine-containing products for at least 4 weeks prior to surgery. You must also avoid any non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory medications (Advil, Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve and etc.) for 1 week prior to surgery. Significant weight changes should also be avoided.
For most patients, this procedure can be performed in our AAAASF accredited surgical suite. You will be able to go home the same day with a chaperone.
Traditional liposuction to remove unwanted fat from areas such as the chin, arms, abdomen, hips, thighs or back is performed. This fat is then gently filtered and then prepared for injection. Small cannulas are used for both harvesting and reinjection, thereby keeping the surgical scars hidden and minimal in size.
You will notice an immediate difference and overall improvement; however the initial swelling and bruising may take 2-3 weeks to resolve. The final result can be seen within 2-3 months and can be lasting with weight maintenance.
You will wear a compression garment post-operative, covering all areas treated for 8-12 weeks. You will also avoid direct pressure on the buttocks for 4 weeks.
Consistent use of the compression garment can reduce swelling. Arnica, an herbal supplements sold in most health food stores, can also help reduce swelling and bruising. In some case, your surgeon may recommend a post-operative massage therapy.
